An Antioch man was arrested today after he allegedly killed his girlfriend, police said.

Aaron Johnson, 45, was taken into custody at a store near Highway 12 between Rio Vista and Lodi at about 11 a.m.

He is suspected of killing his girlfriend, whose body was found at 6:50 a.m. today in a bedroom at a home on the 500 block of West Sixth Street (links.sfgate.com/ZHTD), said Antioch police Lt. Leonard Orman.

The victim's name has not been released, and police did not say how she died.

Johnson apparently drove from the home in her Mitsubishi, Orman said.

Witnesses told police that Johnson argued with his girlfriend Sunday and told people early today that he had killed her. "Johnson also indicated he was going to flee the area and was going to take his own life," Orman said.

A motive for the slaying is under investigation.
