LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. - A local man is being held in the Giles County, Tenn., jail after authorities said he stabbed and killed his girlfriend early Sunday during a domestic incident.

Lawrenceburg Police Chief Judy Moore said the stabbing happened just after midnight Sunday morning at an apartment complex in the city.

Moore would not release any details this morning until investigators returned from an autopsy in Nashville.

Authorities with knowledge of the case said the victim was a 27-year-old woman. Moore did say the victim died at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville on Sunday morning after being flown from the scene.

Reports indicate her boyfriend, Samuel James Scholl, 29, Lawrenceburg, Tenn., has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held at the county jail in Pulaski, Tenn.

Moore said she hoped to have more details this afternoon after a briefing with investigators.
